LASUSOC: LaLiga Creates Business in Sport

Lagos State University School of Communication (LASUSOC) and LasuFm in collaboration with LaLiga presents a workshop on Sport management and Branding on 3rd of August 2018 at the Faculty New Building, Ojo.This was set in place to promote media coverage and reporting of sport events in Nigeria as well as the local regions.

The Country Manager for LaLiga Nigeria, Javier Del Rio, reviewed that the private club Association is a non-profit organization that came into existence in 1984 under Spanish Sports Law.

“But beyond football LaLiga is part of the entertaining industry. Everyone is expected to be involved in its development” ,Del Rio said.

Head of Media Communication for LaLiga, Nigeria, Ayodeji Adegbonro, stated that the organization has a legal backing in fighting against piracy using; Technology, Communication and Lobbying and its global growth is about 53 percent.

He further explained that the organization has international collaboration with the women football team, social/CSR amongst others. It has also established its business school to enhance one’s academic pursuit such as Master in Football, MBA in Sports, and Master in Law applied to professional football.

“Beyond selling of sport wears, students can participate in the world of football but must ensure they obtain their first degree. The organization is making necessary arrangement to create room for internship in the student category soon”, Adegbonro said.

However, its International Development is to enable them reach their fans who reside in other part of the country including Africa. Meanwhile, the branding aspect is to create various platforms for the organization to thrive in this digital age.

He added that language is not a barrier to dissemination of information because they are sometimes done in local languages.

Head Department of Broadcasting,Dr. Yinka Alawode stated that sporting activities whether indoor or outdoor can be reported. He further said that everyone is a sport participant in one way or the other as leg walk is part of sport exercise and sport is a successful business as one can be a sport manager or a sport reporter just as Nigeria today engages in sport business which is lucrative.

“We would be doing ourselves good if we can participate in sport. In the defunt School of Communication campus at Surulere there was a Table Tennis Court and the faculty would soon replicate this at Ojo Campus”, Alawode added.

LASU revise for WAUG

According to sport centre football director,MR omosaye Bamidele Thompson A.K.A Olia, he said the west Africa University Games will commence on the 31 of October till November 11th in university of port-harcourt, River State Nigeria.

He further stated that the student representing the Lagos State University in the competition has initiated immense training to ensure success at this year’s game and also the student representing the school are choose from various faculties during inter faculty sport championship depending on their performance.

He also stated that the necessary equipment will be provided by school management whenever they are going for the competition including allowance.

Sportegy turns the man of the match

In an interview with the current Sport Director of Lagos State University Student Union(LASUSU), Adande Abdulazeez also known as Sportergy who scored a victorious goal against the other team making the scores a goal to nil (1-0).

The match was termed Staillite versus Freshers of the Faculty Of Education in LASU. He stated the importance of the occurrence of Inter Departmental matches, which is as a result of the upcoming LASUSU Champions League which will commence on september 25,2018. The Inter Departmental aids each department to pick their best players that will perform in the tournament.

Sportegy claims that LASU is really improving and supportive in sport activities and uses this medium to inform everyone about a bigger sport event known as WAUG (west africa universities games) and LASU is also going to participate. He says that preparation and constant trainings has commenced at the sport center in lASU in order to meet up with standard of WAUG and perform well.

Also he disclosed that Lagos State University also is planning to host Prenugal games next year and encourages the interest of all athlete in lasu to be aware and get prepared for more.

COSA FC salvage a draw against FMS FC

The Faculty of Management Science (FMS) and the Communication Students Association (COSA) football clubs have played a friendly game which ended in a 2-2 all draw.

The FMS, controlled the game from the start to the finish while the COSA, were defending their lines to prevent them from scoring, in a game that provide, over a 2.5 goals eventually.

After 34 minutes of the game,  there was a defensive error by COSA which lead to the first goal and the same happened at the second half of the game.

The COSA FC were able to bounce back at the second half of the game with a late drama helped them to a draw.

The game is a warm up match for their qualification matches coming up on the September 25.

COSA appoints new head coach

The Communication student association sports Director Olamide with his assistant Timothy appointed Olaniyi Adeoluwa popularly known as Ade-Lasu a 400 level student, from the school of communcation as the new head coach of the football team with Agbasere Alexender and Oladunjoye Damola popularly known as ‘Awo’ both from 300 level school of communication has his assistants.

The meeting for the selection of the head coach took place on the 11th of September 2018, at the new faculty building of the school of communcation, the announcement was made known by the cosa sports director himself with other students and footballers of the faculty sitted.
Olaniyi Adeoluwa who was the former interim coach and his team led the cosa team against all odds to the finals of last year’s lasusu champions league finals only to lose to the faculty of management Science.

Adelasu seems to be a tested and trusted kin of the department, especially in the football sector, although a test of his managerial skill would all be expose in the coming weeks, as a plethora of games would soon unfold.

However he promise to give his best this year to the team, and win the lasusu champions league trophy, probably as a well send off, who knows, although his tenure is expected to kick start, with a match against Engineering, in the qualify match.

The team selection is what would keep each players on their toes, the squad will be made known shortly.

LASUSU Champions League Returns

The Lagos State University Student Union (LASUSU) champions league qualification draw has been held and each team has the chance to know their opponent before the playoff games on 25th to 27th of September before the champions league games commences properly.

The teams are being selected randomly, which would see the Faculty of Education play host to faculty of Art, while Engineering would hope to defeat the School of Communication as they face off in a must win tie, a game of revenge, since they were defeated at the last season champions league semi-final, faculty of management science play against the school of medicine, faculty of social science play host to school of transportation and the social sciences would battle it out against the Faculty of law.
The competition is expected to start properly on the 5th of October, 2018, each of the team have already qualified automatically but the qualification matches( playoffs) would decide who should have another spot at the champions league group stage making it two teams at the competition.

The lasusu sport director Adande Abdulaziz has advised all sport directors to make sure that they select the best players who are ready to represent the team, he said; “All faculty sport directors are to select their teams, who can competently compete in the tournament”.

This development would continue to manifold as more of the sporting events are opened up in the coming weeks. Dates of the playoffs would also be announced soon.

LASU student becomes the youngest to present a medal in Africa

Lagos State University Student, Victor Okonma becomes the youngest person to present a medal in a major athletics championship in Africa

The 22 year old presented the medal at the just concluded 21st African Senior Athletic Championship which was held in Asaba, Delta State.

Prior to the championship, Victor who is an undergraduate of Mass Communication took part in the Mascot design competition which was thrown open to all Delta State indigene by the state governor Mr Ifeanyi Okowa and his Mascot was selected as the best out of 50 young people who contested in the competition.

Speaking with him in an interview, he said ” I feel very honoured and happy to be the youngest person in the history of the Africa to present medals at the African Senior Athletic Championship to athletes who are winners on the podium and i am grateful for this rare opportunity”

3 LASU Students, 9 others selected for ITTF NigeriaOpen2018 Media Workshop

Three Lagos State University Students were selected amongst 12 undergraduates to participate in the Seamaster International Table Tennis Federation NigeriaOpen 2018 media workshop.

The LASUites; Mamud Bola, Ayobami Okerinde and Emmanuella Lekwauwa who are from the department of Mass Communication alongside 9 other undergraduates underwent training on Wednesday, 1st of August 2018 at the Molade Okoya Thomas hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos.

Meanwhile,Mamud was also selected alongside three others as Media Interns for the NigeriaOpen Tournament which will take place in Lagos from 8th to 12th of August 2018.

Football tourney kicks-off on Epe campus

In an apparent bid to kill boredom, students on the Epe campus of Lagos State University (LASU) have begun a football competition tagged Epe League.

A six-team tourney, the league, according to the organisers, was designed by a group of final year students of engineering as a means of eliminating the boredom that has become the lot of the campus at the weekends.

The competition, which comprises students ranging from pre-degree and freshmen to seniors, who are already competing for supremacy in football, will run for ten weeks on the campus. Three matches will be played on two-legged system that will see six teams face-off for 70 minutes in three matches each weekend

It kicked off on February 3 with teams Volcanoes, Warriors, Eagles, Tornados, Dragons and Tigers, respectively coached by Akapo John, Odunewu Tayo, Imam Olaiya, David Henry and Taiwo Oreoluwa.

One of the coaches, Mr David Olaiya pledged his support for the success of the tourney during a chat with our correspondents who visited the campus. On his part, Olaiya said, “As a coach, my duty is to make sure the players are on the field before kick-off time.”

His counterpart Mr Odunewu Temitayo said the tournament is a means of reducing boredom at the weekends, when the Epe campus hardly comes alive. According to him, the tournament is fulfilling its purpose.
